An exciting and elusive running back, Lou Montgomery was a major offensive contributor to the Boston College teams that won 19 of 20 regular season games in his junior and senior seasons and earned invitations to the 1940 Cotton Bowl and 1941 Sugar Bowl.

Because of the South's segregationist culture, and his own university's failure to support the human rights of one of their own, he was prohibited from playing in numerous regular season football games, including home games, as well as in two major bowl games.

Lou Montgomery was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
